What is a PDF to JPG converter?

A PDF to JPG converter turns the pages of a PDF document into JPG pictures. Each page becomes one image that you can open on any phone or computer, send in a chat, upload to a website or place in a presentation. It is the quickest way to share a single page of a PDF when the other person only needs to see it, not edit it.

Our converter works in your browser. You choose a PDF, pick the pages and the quality, and the images appear in seconds. You can download each image on its own or all of them in one ZIP file. Your PDF is not uploaded to a server.

Features of this free PDF to JPG converter

  • All pages or a page range: Convert the whole document, or type a range such as 1-3, 5 to convert only the pages you need.
  • Choose the resolution: Pick 72, 150, 200 or 300 DPI, from small screen images to print quality.
  • Adjustable JPG quality: Balance sharpness and file size with the quality slider.
  • Preview before download: See a thumbnail of every converted page with its size.
  • One by one or as a ZIP: Save a single page, or all pages together in one ZIP file.
  • No signup and no watermark: The images are clean, with nothing added to them.

Which resolution and quality should you choose?

Resolution is measured in DPI, which means dots per inch. A higher DPI gives a larger and sharper image, but also a bigger file.

  • 72 DPI: Small images for quick previews and thumbnails.
  • 150 DPI: A good default for sharing on screen and in chats.
  • 200 DPI: Sharper text, useful for scanned documents and presentations.
  • 300 DPI: Print quality. Use it when you plan to print the image or zoom in a lot.
  • JPG quality: A quality between 85 and 95 percent keeps text readable. Lower values make smaller files but add visible blur around letters.

Why convert a PDF to JPG?

  • Sharing one page: Send a single page in a chat or on social media without attaching the whole document.
  • Websites and online forms: Many forms, marketplaces and content systems accept images but not PDF files.
  • Presentations and documents: Insert a page as a picture into slides or a document.
  • Thumbnails and previews: Create a cover image of a brochure, a menu or a report.
  • Scanned pages: Extract the page images of a scanned document.
  • Compatibility: JPG opens everywhere, even on devices without a PDF reader.

PDF vs JPG: what changes after conversion?

A PDF can hold many pages, selectable text, links and fonts. A JPG holds one flat picture. After the conversion, the text on the image can no longer be selected, searched or clicked, and each page becomes a separate file. JPG also uses lossy compression, so a very low quality setting can make small text look fuzzy. If your page has small text, use a higher resolution and quality.

How does the converter work, and is it private?

The converter uses PDF.js, the open-source PDF engine made by Mozilla. Your browser draws each page of your PDF onto a canvas and saves the result as a JPG image. The PDF engine is downloaded from a public content delivery network the first time you use the tool, so you need an internet connection.

Your PDF itself is processed on your device and is never uploaded to our servers.

Tips for better results

  • Convert only the pages you need: Large documents take longer, so type a page range when you need just a few pages.
  • Use a higher DPI for text: Documents with small letters look better at 200 DPI or more.
  • Keep web images small: Images for websites usually look fine at 150 DPI, and smaller files load faster. You can shrink them further with the Image Compressor.
  • Check the page order: Files are numbered by page, so they sort correctly in your folder.
  • Unlock protected PDFs first: Remove the password in the program that created the file, then convert it.

Limits of this converter

You can convert up to 100 pages at a time from a file of up to 50 MB. Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened. Very large pages are scaled down automatically so that your browser does not run out of memory.
