What does merging PDF files mean?

Merging PDFs means joining two or more PDF files into one document. The pages of every file are placed one after another in the order you choose, so you end up with a single file instead of several.

This tool runs in your browser. Your PDF files are never uploaded to a server, so contracts, invoices, reports and personal documents stay on your device.

When is a merged PDF useful?

  • Applications and forms: Combine your ID, certificates and a cover letter into one file when a portal accepts only a single upload.
  • Reports and presentations: Join chapters written by different people into one complete document.
  • Invoices and statements: Put a month of receipts or bank statements into one file for your accountant.
  • Sharing by email: Send one attachment instead of five, so nothing gets missed.

Tips before you merge

Check the order of your files first. Use the up and down arrows to move a file earlier or later, and the page count next to each file helps you confirm that you picked the right one.

Password-protected PDFs cannot be merged. Remove the password in the program you used to create the file, then add it again. If the merged file is too large to email, compress the images inside your documents before you create the PDFs.

Merging keeps the pages and their content. Bookmarks and some interactive form features of the original files may not be kept in the merged file.

Need to turn photos into a PDF first?

If your documents are photos or scans saved as images, convert them with the JPG to PDF tool first, and then merge the results with other PDF files here.
