What is an age calculator?

An age calculator is a free online tool that tells you exactly how old you are from your date of birth. Instead of showing only a rounded number of years, it works out your age in years, months and days, so you can answer the question how old am I with complete accuracy. It also converts your age into total months, weeks, days and hours, and it counts down to your next birthday.

Our age calculator is built for speed and privacy. There is nothing to install and no account to create. You pick a date of birth, and the result appears instantly on the same page. The calculation runs inside your browser, so the dates you enter are never sent to a server or saved anywhere. It works on phones, tablets and computers.

Features of this date of birth calculator

  • Exact age: Your age in full years, months and days, for example 26 years, 4 months and 19 days.
  • Total time lived: Your age as total months, weeks, days and hours, which is handy for milestones such as your 10,000th day.
  • Next birthday countdown: The number of days left until your next birthday, the weekday it falls on and the age you will turn.
  • Day of birth: The weekday you were born on, such as Monday or Friday.
  • Age on any date: A second date field lets you calculate age on a past or future date, not only today.
  • Instant and private: Results update as you pick the dates, and your date of birth never leaves your browser.

How does the age calculator work?

The calculator compares two calendar dates: your date of birth and the date you want to measure, which is today by default. It first counts the number of full years between them. Then it counts the full months that have passed since your last birthday, and finally the remaining days.

When the day number of the second date is smaller than your birth day, the calculator borrows the length of the previous month, exactly as you would when subtracting by hand. Because it uses real calendar dates, months with 28, 29, 30 or 31 days and leap years are handled correctly without any extra input from you.

To find the total number of days, the tool counts the whole days between the two dates. Weeks are that total divided by seven, total months are your full years multiplied by 12 plus the extra months, and hours are the total days multiplied by 24.

Age calculation examples

Here are three examples that show what the age calculator returns. Each one is checked on a specific date, so you can try the same values yourself.

  • Born 15 May 2000, checked on 4 October 2026: The result is 26 years, 4 months and 19 days.
  • Born 1 January 1990, checked on 31 December 2025: The result is 35 years, 11 months and 30 days, which is one day short of the 36th birthday.
  • Born 10 March 2015, checked on 10 October 2026: The result is 11 years, 7 months and 0 days, exactly on a monthly anniversary.

Who uses an age calculator?

People look for an age calculator for many everyday reasons:

  • Parents: To track a baby or toddler age in months and weeks, which is how checkups and milestones are usually described.
  • Students and schools: To check whether a child meets the minimum age on the admission cut-off date.
  • Job applicants: To find their exact age on the closing date of a vacancy or exam.
  • HR and payroll teams: To plan retirement and pension dates, which depend on exact age.
  • Family historians: To work out how old a person was on a past date, such as a wedding or a census day.
  • Curious people: To see how many days they have lived or how long it is until their next birthday.

Why an exact age matters

Rounding your age to whole years can be misleading. A person who is 17 years, 11 months and 20 days old is still 17, not nearly 18, and that difference can decide whether they qualify for a license, a job or an exam.

Many forms ask for your age as on a particular date, and a single day can change the answer. Using the Age at the date of field, you can enter that exact date and read your age without counting months on a calendar.

Tips for accurate results

Follow these tips to get the most reliable answer:

  • Use the date picker: Choose the day, month and year from the picker so that formats such as 04/10/2026 are never misread.
  • Set the right comparison date: For cut-off dates and deadlines, change the Age at the date of field instead of using today.
  • Remember the time of day: The calculator works with calendar dates, so total hours are counted from whole days and do not include the hour you were born.
  • Check official rules: For legal or official decisions, confirm the age rule with the school, employer or authority that sets it.
  • Leap day birthdays: If you were born on 29 February, the next birthday in a non-leap year is counted on 1 March.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this age calculator free?

Yes. The age calculator is completely free, has no limits and needs no signup.

How does the age calculator find my exact age?

It counts the full years, then the full months and the remaining days between your date of birth and the chosen date, borrowing from the previous month when needed.

How do I calculate my age in days?

Pick your date of birth and read the Total days box. It counts every whole day between your birth date and the chosen date, including leap days.

Why is my age not just the current year minus my birth year?

Because your birthday may not have happened yet this year. If it has not, subtracting the years gives an age that is one year too high.

Can I calculate my age on a past or future date?

Yes. Change the Age at the date of field to any date after your date of birth to see how old you were or will be on that day.

How many days are left until my next birthday?

The result box shows the days until your next birthday, the weekday it falls on and the age you will turn.

Does it handle leap years and February 29?

Yes. Leap years are included automatically. For a 29 February birth date, the next birthday in a non-leap year is counted on 1 March.

Is my date of birth stored or shared?

No. The calculation runs in your browser, and your date of birth is never uploaded or saved.

Does the age calculator work on a phone?

Yes. It works in any modern mobile browser and uses your phone date picker.
